HARCOURT COMMUNITY CHAPEL

Who we are and what we’re all about

Harcourt Chapel is a lively, friendly church where 'salt of the earth' people express their love and gratitude for the Lord Jesus. We gather to worship, to be taught about a remarkable God & to enjoy being together as the family of God. We have no illusions about our faults, failures and struggles especially when faced with the paradoxes and unpredictable events of life.  We may not be able to walk a “mile in each other’s shoes,” but we make up for it by being together as a congregation where we can share honestly and openly what the Lord is doing in our lives and how gracious and caring He is as we mature in our understanding of who God is and who Christ is a well.  Great times of discovery! We value our relationships with those inside and outside of the church, believing that God uses these raw materials to establish strong bonds of friendship, making it possible to genuinely love and to develop a robust trust freed from the need to “fake it.” If God is brought into the “here and now” then transformations and deliverances from all manner of vices and delusions are real possibilities!

We aspire to be “Good News” people to a world characterized by cynicism, and lots of good intentions but lacking the power and the means to achieve their goals. It has been said, “The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.”  There’s so much doom and gloom in our country right now, no doubt contributing to an opioid epidemic; addictions to unbelievably destructive drugs; isolation/loneliness/alienation; anxiety which is through the roof; dread and fears concerning the future… the list could go on and on. Is there any real hope that can come against the pessimism and nihilism (no purpose resulting in despair and resignation) that is pervasive and has us in its vicious grips? In the midst of such messiness and muddle—is there an answer?

At Harcourt Chapel we say, “Yes! There is!” You are invited to join us as together we walk with and learn from a real Jesus who lived in our world, understands the power and assault of temptations that overcome you and me, leaving us sidelined instead of participating fully in the gift of this thing we call “Life”.  This Jesus loves all people which is clearly demonstrated when He willingly in our place goes through and suffers the agony of the cross.  On the third day He rose again.  Here is the core, nub, bottom line—call it what you will of the Christian faith. It’s not about being religious, keeping a bunch of impossible rules; it’s not cultivating a-holier-than-thou superior moral standard. Far from it. The answer to “what is the bottom line” is this: Jesus died, was buried and on the third day was raised from the dead.  It’s not about whether you should or should not wear lipstick, go to the movies on a Sunday, should men wear a tie…etc. etc.  It’s about receiving this Jesus in a definite act of faith which alone can make one right with God.

Come and worship and visit with us as we continue to unpack this incredible Good News. Worship, teaching, preaching, and interaction means lots of good things are available to bring us up to speed about the faith. A very warm welcome always awaits visitor and regular alike! Come and check us out.
